How can you help me become a better singer?

I provide a safe, fun and spirited environment during each one-on-one session with 2 decades of performance and recording experience as a singer. I’ve been singing my whole life and professionally for almost 20 years. I understand the many stages of physical voice development and vocal health and the importance of encouragement, confidence and the healing that comes from self-expression. Discovering your voice is a personal deep journey with yourself; and I’m honored to guide you along the way with honesty, respect and compassion.
I’m going to help you tap into your awareness. When you become aware of the components of your voice - from your body to your internal and external environment - you can connect and take control. You will begin to have compassion for the complex instrument that is uniquely yours.
Through awareness practice, we will identify areas that can improve and develop. We’ll use body exercises to awaken connectivity to breath and resonance and to alleviate tension. We’ll explore any fears and negative emotions associated with singing and overcome them by understanding their roots.
With dynamic vocal exercises rooted in scientific principals of the voice, we will develop your vocal strength and endurance so you can awaken new parts of your voice and enjoy singing songs you love!
I will use the piano as a guide and accompaniment during your singing. We will always work on music you love and connect to. Learning is at the pace of the student. There is so much to explore, there is no rush at all!
I’m so passionate about each students journey to discover their voice and it genuinely brings me joy to guide you through your journey and help you grow! Please contact me with any questions you might have!
What is a “voice”, anyway?

A confident voice is heard and an honest voice is felt. You can have both.
There are almost 8 billion people on planet earth. That means there are almost 8 billion unique voices in the world. Amazing, right?
Your voice is an instrument and it’s part of a complex living organism - the human body. Just like no two people are identical, no two voices are. The components of your voice will be different in shape, size as will their level of connectivity to one another. Even the smallest difference can be heard. This includes abdominal muscles, diaphragm, ribs, throat, tongue and mouth - and more. All of these components create your natural tone when unhindered by tension and working together harmoniously.
Not only do your inherent physical components play an enormous role in the sound of your voice, but so does your internal and external environment. The weather, the air quality, your health, hydration level, diet and mental or physical state will all affect the voice.
What makes a great voice?

A great voice is subjective. Some people love a certain singer, and others won’t. Just like art, sometimes we feel connected and sometimes we won’t.
Regardless of style or genre, there are some aspects of singing that will absolutely keep a listener engaged and enjoying the song they hear.
First, I believe a great voice is an honest voice. An honest voice expresses true connection to the words or sounds they’re singing. They bring their honest emotions and interpretation into each word and phrase. An honest, heartfelt voice moves an audience.
Second, a natural fluid tone, that is supported with healthy airflow and free of hindering tension, will allow for a beautiful sound. You will hear the melody clearly and the pitches will be accurate, feeling good in our ear. You will experience subtle volume dynamics, taking you on a sonic journey.
A voice can have impressive range and power but if the singing lacks authentic true emotion and dynamics, it’s not always one we are moved by.
A voice that carries and moves freely in its own comfortable, natural range and connect with the heart, is one we want to hear.
So, that’s a great singing voice to me!
